SELF's primary mission is to provide services to individuals which enable
them to achieve self-sufficiency in life management by developing strength
of character and economic independence. The way in which this is
accomplished is truly UNIQUE.
SELF, Inc. celebrates the inherent value and dignity of all human beings
and creates within its programs a feeling of hope, unity and family.
SELF, Inc. develops a therapeutic community of peers within each
residential program through the
use of community meetings, the election and training of peer counselors to
serve as role models and the hiring of more than 85% of the staff
from graduates of the programs. Clients learn to assume responsibility for
their own recovery and development.
SELF, Inc. provides "clean and sober' training that does not focus solely
on achieving sobriety, viewing that as only the first step. Clients are
taught that it is essential to turn away from the misdirected habits and
to use the basic life principles - love, respect, truth, honesty, care,
compassion, forgiveness, and acceptance of differences to rebuild their
lives.
